BEHIND THE SWEAT | Jasmine Estevez

MEET JASMINE.

Yogi, chef, holistic nutrition, creative, and all around amazing person. We connected with Jasmine for the launch of our Flow Collection in celebration of Yoga Month, and we know you'll love her as much as we do.

WHAT IS YOUR 'DAY JOB'?

Holistic nutritionist, personal vegan chef, yoga teacher, and content creator.

WHAT DOES A DAY IN YOUR LIFE LOOK LIKE?

My schedule varies day to day and by season, but I always start with a gratitude practice and meditation. My days usually consist of me teaching yoga at a local studio, cooking for clients, creating and editing content, taking my dogs out for walks and finding new waters to explore and adventure with friends. I have a consistent asana practice, which I prefer to do first thing in the morning, then I work on emails and administrative work. We homeschool year round so we tend to get it done and out the way before noon. As a nutritionist, it’s my top priority to cook most of our meals at home so I spend a lot of time in the kitchen creating new recipes.

WHAT IS THE ONE 'NON-NEGOTIABLE' PART OF YOUR DAY?

My morning routine is a non negotiable. As soon as I awaken, I give thanks for at least three things. Coffee is a must and the ritual of drinking it is meditative. In the stillness and quiet I get to meditate even if it’s just for a few minutes.

WHAT DOES SELF-CARE LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

Self care starts with showing up as the truest version of myself. Feeding my body with nutritious foods, saying no, being outside in the sun, some sort of movement practice, being in community and honoring time for myself. It’s from this place, where I’m my fullest.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SWEAT?

A nice and hot vinyasa practice.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOGA?

A friend invited me to a yoga studio with her without much description. My first class was a led primary ashtanga class completely in Sanskrit. I fell in love with the practice and the feeling that it gave me after my first time.

HOW HAS YOUR PRACTICE EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS?

My practice started with asana. It was structured and disciplined. Which I own my current practice to. However, throughout the years, my intention behind my practice has evolved the most. Yoga has given me more compassion and understanding of myself and others and it’s off my mat where the most evolution has occurred. The mantra that sealed my love for the practice was “Lokah samastah sukhino bhavantu” which translates to “May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.” I feel more aligned to it now than I did when I heard it for the first time thirteen years ago.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA POSE?

Besides, shavasana (corpse pose), I’ll say my favorite asana would be pincha mayurasana (forearm stand).

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE OXB PIECE TO SWEAT IN?

I literally never take my rings off! They are just a part of who I am now.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT TO DATE?

Besides being a mom, creating a career and life doing what I love and aligns with my values is by far the coolest thing.

WHAT'S SOMETHING YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO?

So many things happening in Q4! I’m going to Bali for the first time to do another yoga teacher training, announcing a wellness retreat for next year and on the search to buy my first home.

WHAT IS A MANTRA YOU LIVE BY?

Be kind.
